The official opening of the National Reading Days is traditionally done by Princess Laurentien. The wife of Prince Constantijn is doing so this year in the library of child center Het Duet in Uithoorn. In other places in the country, the reading is done by politician Marjolein Moorman, vlogger Mascha Feoktistova, chief of police Henk van Essen, football player Klaas-Jan Huntelaar and presenter Marlijn Weerdenburg. Bobbi Eden, Rick Paul van Mulligen, Teacher Joni and Meester Sander read online.

The National Reading Days have been in existence since 2004 and are intended to encourage reading to children up to 6 years old. The National Reading Days 2022 last until 5 February.
