Apple strolls around: Current delays at the trendsetter
The new year is not really old yet, when the first delays within the Apple portfolio are already announcing themselves. Unfortunately, we will most likely not see the following devices in 2022. But then when?
Things don’t always go according to plan, not even at Apple. There are new products with development problems, others are simply not that far along, although customers are looking forward to them.
Apple’s delays: no longer possible in 2022
According to the current state of knowledge, this statement is currently already being made six entirely new Apple products to (source: MacRumors). So who are these “junkies” and when can we expect them to appear? We summarize.
Apple glasses: The iPhone manufacturer is developing two types of data glasses. The combined AR/VR headset was supposed to be shown at the WWDC in June this year, but Apple is currently struggling with major problems. According to Bloomberg, overheating should occur and the camera and the software of the mixed reality headset are anything but mature (source: Bloomberg). So there is a delay, one The premiere would not be scheduled until 2023 at Apple’s developer fair.
Apple will probably need even longer for the more everyday and cheaper, pure AR glasses – before 2025 you don’t have to expect them anymore.
Microsoft already has something like this, but Apple will probably only do this next year:
iPad with larger displays: 12.9 inches is not big enough? Well then, Apple is working on tablets with even bigger screens. But if you’re already waiting for a 14 or even 16-inch iPad Pro this year, you’ll have to wait even longer. Gurman no longer expects it in 2022, but also leaves open when we can expect it.
Apple TV with speakers and camera: Direct FaceTime calls via Apple TV are not yet possible, but Apple is experimenting with an all-new Apple TV. Not dissimilar to a HomePod, it is said to have speakers and a camera for FaceTime calls. Reminds me of Amazon’s Fire TV Cube, but would still have the advantage of the webcam. Whenever that is to be expected, it won’t happen this year.
Apple’s electric car not before 2025
Apple’s electric car: A never-ending story, so far without a happy ending. We’ll make it short… 2025 at the earliest we see Apple’s self-driving electric car. However, according to various industry experts, this schedule could still be too optimistic. Further delays should rather be taken into account.
The Apple Car could look something like this:
iPhone with Face ID under the display: The integration of the Face ID sensors below the display was originally assumed for autumn 2022, but Apple will have to rethink and prefer a rather unconventional solution for the iPhone 14 – two holes in the display instead of a notch, each circular for the optical camera and pill-shaped for the rest of the Face ID sensors. Below the display, it will probably not be available until 2023 at the earliest, if not as late as 2024 – we reported.
HomePod with swivel display: Apple’s answer to Amazon’s 3rd generation Echo 10 is still a long way off. Equivalent to the Alexa speaker, the HomePod should have a display that can be swiveled by a robotic arm. However, the work is said to be in a very early phase an early market launch is therefore far from being a possibility.
The bottom line: Even Apple can’t do magic and sometimes needs more time. This is not necessarily worthy of criticism, because a mature product is always preferable in the end. Customers don’t necessarily want to be beta testers. There are also enough other innovations for 2022.
