Honor’s first foldable, Magic V, solves major problem
The Honor Magic V is the brand’s first foldable, but it already claims to solve a major problem.
Folding smartphones is a lot to do, but at least the earlier devices from Samsung do have a common problem. Namely that there is a crease in the screen quite quickly. Logically, that’s what happens when folded in half. The problem actually seems to be something we have to live with. However?
No more fold
Not if it’s up to the new foldables slant. Admittedly, the Oppo Find N has already used this solution, but now it is Honor who also touts it as an innovation. Just like the Oppo, their new Honor Magic V has no fold in the screen, or at least a less noticeable one. This is because the screen does not fold completely, but is printed in a kind of ‘drop shape’. That does fold it, but not completely, so there is no fold.

Like many foldables, the Honor Magic V has two screens, a flexible OLED screen that can fold and measures 7.9 inches and a curved OLED screen on the back that measures 6.4 inches. Unfortunately, this is a screen with a somewhat uncomfortable aspect ratio: 21.3:9. Anyway, watching videos at 16:9 should be done on the big screen. Both screens have a refresh rate of 120 Hz. The software is also optimized for the Magic V, so everything is well integrated for this unique phone.

The rest of the specifications fit perfectly with a flagship. The Honor Magic V has 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. This is also one of the first phone with the brand new Snapdragon 8 chip, the Gen 1 with 5G functionality. It can all go with the top. It is also possible, because for a smartphone it is an expensive thing. It is not that bad for a foldable: the Honor Magic V costs 9,999 Chinese yuan, which is about 1,385 euros. Unfortunately, China is the only country that is allowed to work with the foldable for the time being.
