Chromecast competitor with Android TV 11
Xiaomi has announced a streaming stick that works with Android TV 11. The Mi TV Stick 4K can play movies and series in high resolution and supports the Google Play Store. That makes it a competitor to Google’s Chromecast with Google TV.
Xiaomi TV Stick 4K
Xiaomi has released a new version of the Mi TV Stick, and as expected, the word ‘Mi’ disappears from the name. As the name suggests, this new TV Stick 4K can stream in a higher resolution than the streaming stick that the brand has released in the Netherlands.
Again the device comes with Android TV. Only this time Xiaomi does not opt for the older Android TV 9.0 but for Android TV 11. That comes with a lot of advantages and you can read more about it in this article. Netflix and Amazon Prime Video are pre-installed on the device. There is also support for the Dolby Vision and the sound effects of Dolby Atmos.
Under the housing of the TV Stick 4K is 2 GB of RAM and 8 GB of storage. That’s the same storage as with the Chromecast with Google TV, only that device has proven to be on the low side taking into account future app updates. Xiaomi’s streaming stick works with the Amlogic S905Y4 chip. It has an HDMI connection and you connect it to mains power thanks to a micro USB port.
Prices and availability
At the moment, the TV Stick 4K has not yet been launched in the Netherlands and Belgium and it is also unknown how much it will cost in other markets. The device can already be seen on Xiaomi’s website, but without a price. We contacted Xiaomi and asked for more information about availability with us. We’ll update this article as soon as we have an answer. The Mi TV Stick came to us in 2020 for 39.99 euros.
