These Samsung smartphones will no longer receive quarterly updates

The South Korean manufacturer Samsung is currently the unit in updating, even its older devices. However, it cannot provide support indefinitely for all released models. With the arrival of the November security patch, the company has made minor changes to its plan, and four mid-range models will now only receive updates every six months, instead of every quarter. The Sammobile portal informed about the news.

Specifically, these will be the Galaxy A20s, Galaxy A30S, Galaxy A50s and Galaxy A70s released in 2019. Their owners will therefore be able to expect only two updates a year. Since all of these smartphones have already received their two major system updates, they will only be security patches without new features. It is also probably their last year of support.

All Samsung devices go through this process. The latest models, especially flagship smartphones, receive security updates every month. However, the vast majority of new devices receive at least one every quarter. Older devices will then officially move to a quarterly cycle and later to a half-yearly cycle, which is the last phase before software support is completely discontinued.

The good news is that most Android smartphone manufacturers, including Samsung, are trying to provide longer support for their devices. Until recently, the standard was to provide only two system updates and two years of monthly security patches, this threshold is gradually increasing. This year, Samsung has promised longer monthly support not only for flagship smartphones, but also for newer middle-class models. In addition, its Enterprise devices receive up to five years of security support.
