British woman gives birth to huge baby of 6.7 (!) kilos: ‘Not expected’

Cherral affectionately calls her son, who actually goes by the name Alpha, “Pumpkin Baby.” She hadn’t expected it to be this strong. “Everyone laughed when he came out. My husband said, “Oh my god, he’s sturdy.” At the 37 week ultrasound, the baby’s weight was estimated at almost five kilos, but during the caesarean section a week later, he was found to be two kilos heavier. By way of comparison: a Dutch baby weighs on average 3500 grams.

According to doctors, Alpha is so large because he ingested a lot of sugars in the womb. He’s not the heaviest baby in the UK, by the way. Guy Carr (1992) and George King (2013) both weighed more than seven kilos. The ‘little’ Alpha is currently in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), but is improving.
