Concordia: Digital Edition – -apkrig
I will tell you quite honestly that Concordia is one of my favorite records. At first glance, it does not look significant. A busy market on a box and the theme of trading in the Mediterranean. No warriors, naval battles, heroes or enraged gods. Only bricks, grain and sesterces. And it works perfectly.
Concordia is another digital remake of board games for phones, tablets and computers. He will soon look at the Nintendo Switch. The publisher of Acram Digital has already shown its qualities in several previous games, so there is no point in speculating about the technical side. This was clearly done. But what is the game itself, if this German legend doesn’t tell you anything?
The Roman Empire is at its peak and your family should squeeze as much as possible. During the game, you will expand your business empire, conquer new markets, produce and sell and compete for the favor of the gods. Well, figuratively speaking. The charm of Concordia is in its simplicity. Everything you can do in the game is expressed by the cards you hold in your hand. You play one, perform its effect, and it’s another player’s turn. However, as you progress, you expand your options with the game, and so will your opponents.
The basis of everything are raw materials. From bricks, through grain to iron and valuable substances. One card will allow you to sell and buy raw materials, but your own production will be much more important. But here comes the fundamental magic of the game. Everything is intertwined and you choose the whole region for production, which is activated and rewards everyone who has their workshops in it. This means that you will help your opponents from time to time, but very often they will also help you. Who wouldn’t want to suddenly discover new raw materials in stock without sacrificing the whole move?
An important event is the work of an architect, who will allow you to move with your colonists and set up new workshops. It is worth mentioning the diplomat card, which copies the card played by another player. Finally, there’s a senator who lets you buy new cards. You can’t do without them, because while gaining resources and expanding sounds like an important plan in itself, without cards, it won’t be enough. Each card brings you the favor of one of the gods. For example, Jupiter will give you 1 point for each workshop built. If you have two Jupiter cards, it is two points for each workshop. In this way, the game can also appreciate the raw materials obtained, the colonists, specific workshops or the number of occupied territories.
And I have to say that Concordia works great on the table and in the digital world. You can play against others online, but I personally appreciate the opportunity to challenge artificial intelligence to a duel. You can choose from two display modes. One is nicer, the other is clearer. You also have two maps. One suitable for up to five players, the other more for a smaller number. And more maps are already in preparation, although you will have to pay for them.
For some 300 crowns, this is not a completely cheap game, but such quality workmanship will definitely defend its price tag. If you are a fan of the original and you want to be able to play more often and even on the road, you have nothing to hesitate over. If this is the first time you’ve heard of Concordia, be sure to give it a try.
