iPad mini 2021 reviews

The iPad mini is back on track. The home button is gone and Touch ID is integrated into the power button – just like the iPad Air. The Lightning connection gave way to USB-C, ideal for connecting peripherals such as a monitor.

The camera of the iPad mini 2021 also received a major upgrade; on the back is a 12-megapixel camera. Furthermore, the mini has a very fast A15 Bionic chip, 5G support and it is compatible with the second generation Apple Pencil.

Among other Engadget, MacStories, and wired have already been able to test Apple’s latest tablet. They are very enthusiastic about the new design, and the still handy design. They also praise the camera, but there is also a point of criticism.

Engadget

The iPad mini has an ‘all-screen’ design. At least, sort of. The display is surrounded by a bezel, which is slightly thicker than the 11-inch iPad Pro 2021 Engadget they don’t think it’s that bad. “The edges are just the right size,” the editor writes. “They gave me more control over the mini when I was using it as an e-reader or watching YouTube videos.”

The rear camera has been improved, but according to the writer it is no reason to get the iPad mini. “We’ve all seen a tablet photographer in the wild, but since the lenses on our phones are much more capable, most people are turning to the iPhone for photography.”

MacStories

Federico Viticci van MacStories been waiting for an iPad mini like this for years. “The iPad mini fulfills my long-standing dream of an iPad Pro/Air-like device in a small package, offering a highly portable experience unlike anything else in Apple’s lineup.”

According to Viticci, the iPad mini and larger iPad models complement each other perfectly. He continues to use his 12.9-inch iPad Pro as his main computer, but finds the 8.3-inch mini more comfortable for things like reading articles and books, playing games and taking notes.

wired

There are also criticisms. Brenda Stolyar from wired is not very happy with the battery of the iPad mini 2021. She used iPad mini 2021 every day to make to-do lists in the Notes app. For the rest of the day, the tablet acted as a second monitor for the MacBook with Sidecar.

The battery struggled with that activity; after about five hours the cake was gone. Apple claims that you can surf the web and watch videos for about ten hours on a single charge. Stolyar has her doubts about that. “When I streamed a Netflix show (with Messages, Telegram, Notes and Google Calendar in the background) the battery was at one percent after six hours. Unless you use it very little, don’t expect the mini to last from 9 to 5.’
