Oppo guarantees good photos with its sensor under the screen
Oppo presents its new technology to have the photo sensor under the screen of the smartphone, while ensuring good quality selfies. This type of technology is not new, but the results so far have not been glorious. The Chinese manufacturer assures that it has passed a course.
A photo sensor under the screen for Oppo
With its new system, Oppo promises to have a screen that occupies the entire surface, while having a photo sensor under the slab. Unlike previous approaches which reduce the pixel density in the part of the screen that covers the camera in order to let more light through, Oppo uses smaller pixels to maintain the same 400 PPI sharpness as the rest of the camera. OLED panel.
OPPO also uses transparent wiring material for the screen, which is 50% thinner than traditional wiring. It is able to provide a visual experience similar to that of the best Android phones, depending on the brand. To improve brightness and chromaticity, Oppo’s new under-screen camera prototype uses proprietary screen technology. Also, a lot of work has taken place at the level of artificial intelligence and algorithms.
Users should notice “Almost no visual difference between the area [du capteur sous l’écran] and the rest of the screen during daily use, which creates a much more immersive visual experience ”, explains Oppo. The brand shared a selfie taken with a smartphone equipped with the new technology, to show that the rendering is generally good.
Obviously, Oppo has chosen a positive context: photo in the middle of the day with a lot of light. We should see what is the rendering in a darker area. But let’s say that the first opinion is generally positive.
Not available immediately
This is all great, but when will the product be available? It is not for now. Oppo is still at the prototype stage and explains its ambition to improve its technology before offering it to everyone. No date is shared.
