Jungle Cruise: a third of revenue comes from Disney +
Jungle Cruise, the new film starring Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt, was released simultaneously in theaters and on Disney +. And the arrival in streaming wants to be paid, with the revenues of Disney + which represent a third of the total revenues.
One-third of revenue with Disney +
Disney announcement than Jungle Cruise has grossed $ 91.8 million at the box office worldwide since its release, including $ 30 million from Disney +. The reason is simple: access is paid from the streaming platform. The film is billed at $ 29.99 in the United States and $ 21.99 in Europe, in addition to the monthly or annual subscription to Disney +. In France, the film is only available in theaters because the media chronology prohibits the release of a film in theaters and on other media at the same time. A delay is required. In this case, the law imposes a period of three years to have it on a streaming platform.
In itself, Jungle Cruise does half as good as Black widow which generated $ 60 million at launch just with Disney +. But it must be said that the second was eagerly awaited, given that it is a Marvel movie. The two films nevertheless have the same budget, namely $ 200 million.
The money comes into play
The release to the cinema and on Disney + in any case generates a debate on the side of the actors. This week, Scarlett Johansson filed a complaint against Mickey’s company regarding the release of Black widow in the cinema and in streaming. She claims that Disney did not honor her contract, since the film should only have been released in theaters (initially). In her case, Scarlett Johansson got $ 20 million for the film and also gets a percentage of the proceeds. But this concerns only the receipts with the cinema tickets, it would not gain anything with the diffusion on Disney +, from where the complaint.
