TRUCKalert – Report animal transport
Created by the Welfarm association (world association for the protection of farm animals), TRUCKalert is the first application allowing every citizen to report trucks transporting live animals in high heat and heat waves (over 30 ° C).
Functioning :
– As soon as the outside temperature in your region exceeds 30 ° C, announced by Météo France, you will receive an alert on your phone.
– If you meet a livestock truck loaded with animals, open the application and click on “I report a truck”.
– The alert is then launched.
– Your phone is geolocated.
– The outside temperature and the exact time are recorded.
– This information is then sent to the Welfarm association.
Every year, NGOs alert the Ministry of Agriculture. In 2019, the latter in fact issued a decree intended to limit the transport of animals during the heatwave. In reality, it only banned certain transport between 1:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. in the departments classified as orange heat wave vigilance and the decree contains flaws. For example, on July 7, 2019, the Hérault was not classified in orange vigilance and yet the temperature reached 37 ° C in Sète.
An observation that everyone can confirm this summer by using the application. Welfarm also seized the Council of State to request the annulment of the decree of July 22, 2019 and to force the Ministry of Agriculture to suspend all animal transport, without exception, as soon as the temperatures announced. exceed 30 ° C. According to the European Transport Regulations, trucks transporting animals for long periods of time must maintain a maximum temperature of 30 ° C inside the animal cabin.
