The new retro game is aimed at System Shock and Deus Ex -apkrig fans

If you love science fiction and old games, I have a tip for you on a project that you just have to watch. Because of the way he looks, but he could also play in an interesting way. Core Decay is a first person action adventure game with RPG elements inspired by classics from the 1990s and the turn of the millennium. It contains something from System Shock and Deus Ex and promises conspiracy, computer hacking and cybernetic implants.

Saving lives at all costs can mean redefining what it means to be human.

The year is 2089. Society has collapsed due to a lack of natural resources, and people are now ruled by corporations that have seized power, while the planet itself is on the brink of an ecological catastrophe that threatens to destroy all remaining life. In this world, we will search for a mysterious organization while questioning the very essence of humanity. Because saving lives at all costs can mean redefining what it means to be human. You probably already understand where this plot is heading…

As in Warren Spector’s famous games, this will not be the only possible way to succeed. You can often avoid fights altogether, or find alternative ways to achieve your goals. Along the way, you can find side paths, bypass security systems and use all sorts of tools.

However, this does not mean that Core Decay has to be ashamed of the action. Exactly opposite. The title will give players a diverse arsenal of unique futuristic weapons and other equipment. With it, we will face security robots and the walking remnants of failed experiments. It’s still a shooter in a way, or at least it will be possible to play it if you prefer.

In total, we can look forward to 11 different locations and all sorts of secrets. The main character himself is said to be a kind of anomaly. He wakes up in an ice cubicle and remembers little of his past. He feels more like a machine than a human being. But it has special abilities. During the game, we can upgrade ourselves thanks to hundreds of cybernetic implants. Who wouldn’t want thermal imaging instead of eyes?

In addition to the mentioned games, he also names Descent as a source of inspiration.

It is supposed to be a philosophical sci-fi adventure that combines the genre of retro events and immersive sims for which the Looking Glass Studios team is famous. So yes, of course we will also come across other characters, we will read different records and just experiment with the world around us.

Core Decay is developed by Ivar Hill, a professional developer who has turned his side private project into a core business. Since then, he has been assisted by 3D Realms and Slipgate Ironworks. In addition to the mentioned games, he also names Descent as a source of inspiration. The game is powered by the Unity engine and after the PC version it should have more ports.

We are looking forward to new details at the Realms Deep 2021 event in August this year. The title could also be released this year.
