World Wide Web source code sold at auction and NFT for $ 5.4 million
The original source code of world Wide Web, created in the early 90s by Sir Tim Berners-Lee, has just been auctioned online for 5.43 million dollars at Sotheby’s, in the form of NFT (non-fungible token encrypted by the blockchain). The auction started at $ 1,000. The buyer’s name has not been released.
Yet fierce opponent of “closed” computer systems, Berners-Lee had nevertheless decided to auction the 9,555 lines of www codes programmed at the time on a NeXT Computer. The millions of dollars from this sale will be re-injected into charitable initiatives supported by Berners-Lee and his wife.
Note that NFT sales of more or less rare items are no longer a novelty. Jack Dorsey, CEO of Twitter, sold his first NFT tweet for $ 2.9 million.
