PostNL app 7.7 allows you to pay customs clearance costs for foreign packages immediately
From July 1, your packages from abroad may become a bit more expensive, for example your Aliexpress package. The PostNL app has received an update that allows you to pay the customs clearance costs immediately.
PostNL app: pay customs clearance costs
The PostNL application is prepared for the change in regulations regarding packages from abroad. From now on you can pay the customs clearance costs, directly from the app. Due to changed EU regulations, you always have to pay VAT on a package from outside the EU, such as with Aliexpress. Aliexpress has already announced that it will calculate this itself at checkout, so you will not have to deal with customs clearance costs, but it may just be that your foreign webshop does not (yet) do that. These are parcels from outside the EU.
Until now, you only paid customs clearance costs if your order was less than 22.00 euros. From 1 July you will have to pay customs clearance costs in any case. You also have to pay import duties for orders over 150 euros. PostNL must declare the package at customs, and those costs will be passed on to you, together with the handling costs.
The costs that PostNL calculates depend on various factors. If you pay online, it will cost you €4.00 for a package value of up to 150.00 euros. If you pay at a PostNL point, it will cost you 7.00 euros. If the value of the package is more than 150 euros, you pay 10.00 euros (online) or 13.00 euros (at a PostNL point). When a package is on its way to you, you will receive a payment request from PostNL. When you have paid, the package comes your way. If you do not pay, you will not receive your package. You can also pay via the PostNL app.
You will receive an email from PostNL that you have to pay for your package. Then make sure that it really comes from PostNL. You can also check this in your PostNL account; on the website and in the app. We suspect that scammers will take advantage of these new regulations!
