Standstill is over
After a year of widespread standstill, Samsung is apparently planning another major camera jump with the Galaxy S22. According to an insider, the resolution of the main camera should increase significantly. Samsung has already presented a suitable sensor.
After Samsung acted rather conservatively with the Galaxy S21 and hardly implemented any improvements in the camera compared to its predecessors, the Galaxy S22 could do it again give a noticeable upgrade. Reported about it SamMobile citing a Insider on Twitter.
Samsung Galaxy S22 could get a new camera sensor with 50 MP
The sensor in the main camera should dissolve with an impressive 50 MP. Compared to the Galaxy S20, that would be a clear plus. Samsung’s current smartphone flagship already ends after 12 MP. Of course, a higher resolution is not synonymous with better photos, as other factors play a role. In order to enable higher quality images, Samsung has to tweak a lot of the screws on the Galaxy S22. This also includes the ultra-wide-angle and telephoto lens, which should offer a resolution of 12 MP. At least on paper, there are no improvements here over the lenses in the S21.
It is not yet known which camera features the Galaxy S22 would like to use to attract customers apart from the resolution. It is also still unclear whether Samsung will use its own ISOCELL sensor or an IMX sensor from Sony.
In this Video let’s explain why smartphone cameras have become so good:
Samsung has already presented a suitable camera sensor
The insider points out that his information should be “treated with caution” – which is an indication that the final camera specifications are probably not yet set in stone. The improvements mentioned are obvious, after all, Samsung only introduced a new 50 MP sensor in the spring, which would also fit perfectly into a smartphone flagship in terms of its other functions – such as 4K video recording at 120 fps.
