‘leaks all Smart Clock 2 details itself’

It regularly happens that a product is leaked via product pages that should not have been online. An early published product page of the Smart Clock 2 from Lenovo and a corresponding dock is living proof of this. Details about the launch are not yet available.

Lenovo Smart Clock 2

Lenovo was one of the first third parties to offer a smart display to compete with Google’s Nest Hub. In addition, Lenovo managed to make the devices more accessible than the Nest Hub, partly due to the low price tag. What also contributed to this is the size of the Smart Clock. Due to its shape and size, the smart clock from Lenovo is less noticeable if you put it on a bedside table. As a bonus, the Lenovo Smart Clock came with a USB port on the back, so you wouldn’t need an extra outlet to charge your phone overnight by your bedside table. With the Smart Clock 2, Lenovo seems to want to continue this story.

For the next chapter in the story of the Smart Clock series, Lenovo does provide a slightly modified design. The screen has been placed higher, so that the Clock can free up more space for the speakers. Henceforth, the Lenovo Smart Clock 2 contains not one, but two speakers for a stereo sound image. Many other components appear unchanged. For example, on the Smart Clock 2 you still get a 4.0-inch screen and the MediaTek MT8167S chip used in the Smart Clock 2 was previously also in the OG Smart Clock.

The smart screen is further encased in a fabric housing, on top we find buttons to adjust the volume and on the back we find the power supply and mute switch for the microphone of the smart Smart Clock 2 screen.

Dock with wireless charging

Despite the spatial aspect, Lenovo apparently had no room left for a USB port. On the Lenovo Smart Clock 2, the USB port has disappeared from the back of the smart screen. Users can still provide themselves with a USB port, but the Smart Clock 2 dock will have to be purchased for that.

The dock that can be purchased for the Lenovo Smart Clock 2 contains pogo pins to connect to the Smart Clock 2 for power supply. The dock therefore does not require a separate power supply. As mentioned, on the back of the dock of the Smart Clock 2, we find a USB port to charge your phone or smartwatch, for example, at night. If you like to charge your phone wirelessly, the dock is certainly a handy purchase. It has a wireless charger that can charge quickly with a maximum of 10 watts. Slower charging is also possible, with 5 or 7.5 watts.

Lenovo shoots own goal: 'leaks all Smart Clock 2 details itself'

A final detail of Lenovo’s dock is that it includes a night light with a brightness of up to 11 lumens. It is currently unknown whether the European model of the smart display will support the dock. Lenovo indicates that ‘only specific models’ will receive support for the dock with wireless charging.

Launch Smart Clock 2

Lenovo scored an own goal with the launch of the product page, but currently seems to be making little move to take the page offline. Various media paid attention to the page last night, without effect for the time being. Lenovo may not be making any changes as the product has been quietly launched with no launch event.

At the moment we have to wait and see until Lenovo releases ‘more details’ about the Smart Clock 2, such as the price and availability of the smart screen. Until then, you can browse through all the details of the Smart Clock 2 via Lenovo’s American website. What do you think of the smart screen?
