Google accidentally turned a man into a serial killer
Imagine someone in the world typing your name into a Google search and finding out from the results that you’re a mass murderer. Even if you are not. This is exactly what happened to a man named Hristo Georgiev due to a faulty algorithm. Otherwise a rather inconspicuous engineer working in Zurich became for some time involuntarily and mainly negatively known personalitywhen he was “betrayed” by a robot who, in the heart of the world’s largest search engine, connected with a mass murderer of the same name who committed his actions almost fifty years ago. A photo of an orderly engineer in a suit appeared at the result leading to Wikipedia page about a serial killer.
A younger, Christ Georgiev, was alerted to this fact by a colleague, who amusedly sent him a screenshot by e-mail. A man who bwas at that moment for the online world the faces of a mass rapist, described his story on his own blog. When the media caught on, Google’s search adjusted the result, which could be due to a misalignment of data from two people of the same name. In his article, Georgiev did not forget to warn the public that Anyone in the online world today should check their virtual business card. A similar mistake is enough, and almost anyone can be almost anyone else.
