Brits have to pay for roaming in EU countries
Now the use of the mobile phone in another EU country is out of your own bundle. However, something will change in Great Britain as a result of Brexit. There you have to pay again for roaming in EU countries.
Roaming will cost money for Brits
After Brexit, it was exciting to see how roaming charges would continue. In December last year, KPN announced that they do not charge any costs when people travel to Great Britain. Other providers have not charged anything so far.
Nothing will change in the Netherlands for now, but things will change for the British themselves. The British provider EE has announced that British customers will have to pay for roaming in EU countries from 1 January 2022. Customers face charges of £2 per day. You can also opt for a pass that allows you to use mobile internet for 30 days in the EU for £10. In October, the provider had no plans to charge costs, but now it does.
Things will also change with other providers in the United Kingdom. Telecom provider O2 will use a data limit of 25 GB. If a customer uses more, they will be charged £3.50 per GB. With provider Three, the data limit goes from 20GB to 12GB. An extra gigabyte of internet in an EU country will cost £3.00. Vodafone UK says it has no plans to change this yet.
For now, nothing is known that it will also change the other way around; that Dutch providers also charge you for using your phone in the UK. However, it cannot be ruled out that this will change in the future.
