this fitness tracker is small, but not everything is nice

Fitbit has launched a new fitness tracker for the fashion-conscious. In our Fitbit Luxe review you can read whether this wearable deserves a place on your wrist.

Read on after the ad.

Fitbit Luxe review: a health gem

The Fitbit Luxe is small, similar to the Fitbit Inspire. This makes the wearable hardly noticeable. Especially if you use one of the many stylish, alternative straps (which you purchase separately). The Luxe also has a thin, metal casing and an AMOLED screen. In this way, Fitbit wants the wearable to feel more like a health jewel than a fitness tracker.

design

The company has succeeded in this, but it also makes the Luxe especially suitable for smaller wrists. On a wide wrist like mine, the wearable is a little too narrow, making it almost like I’m wearing a Fitbit for kids.

The AMOLED screen looks nice and is also easy to read in the sun. That was different with the company’s previous trackers. The disadvantage of the small design is that the screen is also very small, with even a huge black border around it.

Unlike the other Fitbit wearables, the Luxe does not have a physical button. Navigating through the menus is therefore completely via swipe movements and that feels less intuitive. For example, you have to tap the screen hard twice to go back to the start, but instead you often accidentally activate the option that is currently on the screen.

Functions

The Fitbit Luxe can measure a lot of health data. Think of your amount of steps, heart rate, sleep and of course your sports activities. It can also measure oxygen in your blood and your skin temperature while you sleep. Due to the small design, you hardly feel the wearable on your wrist, so that your health is tracked almost unnoticed.

Stress management is also part of the Fitbit Luxe, with a stress score that is based on your various health measurements. You can also indicate yourself how your stress level is on a day.

The Fitbit Luxe does miss some features that we are used to from previous Fitbits. For example, there is no built-in GPS, so you have to take your iPhone with you when you go for a run. The Fitbit Luxe also does not have an NFC, so wireless payment is not an option either.

The battery is also lagging compared to Fitbit’s other trackers. This is of course due to the small design and color screen. Fitbit promises five days on a single charge, but in practice we struggled to make the three days.

Mistakes in the translation

What also does not feel so luxurious is the Dutch translation. You will notice this immediately when pairing the Fitbit. In the Fitbit app you get a short explanation of how to control the wearable. That starts with ‘I firmly twice on the display’ instead of ‘Tap’. The next sentence says ‘If you use the Luxe’. They’re minor glitches, but still it feels pretty sloppy.

You can also see that on the wearable itself. In the settings menu, the word ‘Display Settings’ does not fit properly on the screen. The ‘t’ is only half displayed and a hyphen is missing. The switch for notifications about your heart rate zone is partly placed over the text, because the Dutch translation is longer. They are not deal breakers, but it sometimes feels more like a cheap wearable from China instead of luxury.

price

With the Fitbit Luxe, you get free access to Fitbit Premium for six months, which gives you more insight into your statistics and can do mindfulness exercises. Please note that you must then take out a subscription to keep the same functionality.

The Fitbit Luxe itself is with a suggested retail price of 149.95 euros on the expensive side for a fitness tracker, which will be due to the beautiful screen. It is therefore a pity that essential features are still missing. If you buy a Fitbit wearable with the name ‘Luxury’ now, you also expect all the luxury Fitbit features.

Conclusion Fitbit Luxe review

The Fitbit Luxe is a nice and small fitness tracker, which can be worn by the different straps as a little noticeable piece of jewelry. Like the other fitness trackers from Fitbit, you can easily keep track of your health and sports activities. Unfortunately, the Luxe does drop some stitches in the design and functions. Do you value style over functionality and do you have a slim wrist? Then the Luxe is a good option.
