Considering that Microsoft paid over $ 7 billion, it was expected from the beginning that the news would be published only on PC and Xbox, but the collision with the reality in the case of Starfield reminded this matter and probably deepened the crisis that among PlayStation owners prevailed. It is not written anywhere that Starfield is an exception – we would expect the exact opposite – but given the expected title, the topic of publishing games on platforms other than those on which Microsoft is at home is reopening. In the new interviews, the most professional people were asked about this issue – Vice President of Marketing and Communications Bethesda Pete Hines, together with executive producer Todd Howard – who answered the questions of the editors of Gamespot, resp. list The Telegraph.
In the case of Hines, there was an unexpected apology, which he received in response to the question of how he perceives clipping one of the platforms that has been the destination of most Bethesda games for many years. “If you’re a big fan of our games and you will no longer be available on your favorite platform, I understand you’re sad or upset. I understand all the emotions and frustrations that come with it, “said Hines. However, he tried to explain that he did not have much time in his life to devote himself to things he could not change, and although we did not want to fit into the role of Internet psychoanalysts, his face did not show the effort and optimism to Microsoft defended. To some extent, this is reflected in the apology, which he then sent to the players on the PlayStation, which may seem a little strange in the final. “I don’t know how to dispel the fears of the players on the PS5, I play on it myself and I will play other games. But if you want to play Starfield, you have to choose PC or Xbox, I’m sorry. All I can say is I’m sorry, “said Pete Hines.

His colleague Todd Howard chose a slightly different word in an interview with the Telegraph when he answered the question of how he felt after he had to choose one side. “Choosing a party means… PlayStation? But then he added that although no one wants to choose who will make the game available and who will not, it is important to focus on development and strive for the best possible product. “You have to say – this is the game I want to make and these are the platforms I want to get them on. In addition, he believes that Microsoft and Xbox are doing everything they can to get games to reach more people, whether it’s PC integration, xCloud streaming, and all other stuff. Of course, it also includes the Game Pass, which, according to Howard, will eventually make the game available to more players than there would be if the game were “only” cross-platform and also released on PlayStation. An important aspect was also mentioned by Hines, who indicated that developing the game for as few target devices as possible would have a positive effect on the performance and form of the game, a statement that can certainly not be disputed.
The attitude of Bethesda’s representatives also goes hand in hand with Microsoft’s plan to expand the availability of xCloud in conjunction with the Game Pass to devices that are not primarily intended for games. We mainly offer television, where Microsoft cooperates with Samsung, but also production smart TV adapters and monitors that will not natively support the Xbox ecosystem.
