Photos and videos can also be posted on Instagram in portrait or landscape format. You can choose the best image section for the respective format yourself, but you don’t have an exact setting like in an image editing program. So that you can adapt your posts as optimally as possible on Instagram, you will find the standard aspect ratios and resolutions of Instagram here.

Post content in landscape or portrait format
To post photos or videos in your Instagram feed not in the typical 1: 1 aspect ratio, proceed as follows:
- Opens the Instagram app on your mobile device.
- Tap on that at the top Plus symbolto create a new post.
- Select the desired picture or video.
- Now type in the preview on top of that Enlarge symbol (Arrow pointing down left and up right).
- So you can decide between square and portrait or landscape format.
- Only then press the Top right arrowto edit and post your post as usual.
Aspect ratios and resolutions of feed contributions (photo & video)
By default, Instagram uses the 1: 1 aspect ratio for the posts in your feed. If you adjust a photo or video as described above, they can also be cropped on Instagram in a portrait format (portrait mode) or landscape format (landscape mode). Instagram uses the following aspect ratios and resolutions as standard:

Details on the videos of the Instagram Stories & Reels
Instagram uses the typical 9:16 aspect ratio for stories and reels – which your smartphone usually also uses for video recordings in portrait mode. The resolution is 1080 × 1920 pixels.
