Cult series doesn’t get a movie after all – fans are disappointed
Netflix is a real content machine, but it also regularly shuts down numerous projects. The planned He-Man film Masters of the Universe is now affected. We summarize the entire situation for you and reveal why the real film version could still appear.
Netflix cancels He-Man movie
Netflix releases new content every week. These include series in particular, but also blockbusters worth millions, such as Red Notice or The Gray Man. Both films have cost $200 million each.
Only Netflix itself knows whether this will ultimately pay off for the streaming provider. In the case of the planned He-Man adaptation Masters of the Universe, the streaming giant has surprisingly pulled the ripcord. So the film will no longer appear. And even though Netflix already does $30 million invested in pre-production and planning.
Could the film still come out?
Why Netflix decided to bury the expensive project in advance is not known. Nevertheless, fans can still hope, because licensee and toy manufacturer Mattel wants according to a report by Variety find a new buyer for the film.
So it could well be that Masters of the Universe will still be filmed and published, then maybe under Amazon, Paramount or Disney. In any case, the possibility is not 100 percent impossible.
The break between Netflix and Mattel is regrettable in that the streaming provider has changed in recent years has developed into a small stronghold for He-Man productions. For example, the series Masters of the Universe: Revelation was released in 2021, which sees itself as a sequel to the original series from the 80s.
The news was met with much dismay from fans on Twitter and other social platforms. Many users were looking forward to the big film comeback. Especially since the first film adaptation of Masters of the Universe from 1987 is rather unpopular with fans of the template.
