The iPhone camera can be used to create live photos with movements. From iOS 17 you can convert these live recordings into stickers and send them to contacts via message.

The new feature will be introduced with the iOS update in autumn 2023. With the beta version you can already try out the function. These devices get the update.

iPhone: create your own stickers – also with animation

In order to be able to create the stickers with live animations, the Live Photos feature must be activated on the iPhone. You should also make sure that the background does not distract too much from the actual movement when taking the pictures. The stickers can be created with Live Photos that have already been created. Proceed as follows:

  1. opens iMessage.
  2. Chooses “New message‘ or brings up an existing chat with a contact.
  3. Press this in the input field plus iconto insert an additional item in the conversation.
  4. calls the Sticker option on.
  5. Here you will find the new selection “Live Stickers“.
  6. Press that plus sign.
  7. The gallery will be opened.
  8. Search for that Live Photothat you want to represent in a sticker. For a better overview, you can only filter the display for animated images.
  9. Tap on an object in the picture and hold your finger longer on the iPhone screen.
  10. The selected motif is exported and the background removed. This will give you the desired sticker element.
  11. For the desired motif, select “Add stickers“.
  12. Now you can see your live photo as a sticker motif. Optionally you can add effects.

iPhone: Turn photos into animated stickers

Instead of using iMessage, you can also create the live stickers directly in the photo gallery on the iPhone:

  1. For this, open the Photos app on your iOS device.
  2. Calls up the overview of theLive Photos” on.
  3. Tap that desired motif.
  4. Press on the picture and keep your finger on the screen. A line marks the desired sticker area.
  5. In the menu you canAdd stickers” choose.
