Threads reaches 70 million users and exceeds expectations
The new Threads social network is attracting a lot to the world, to the point that the platform now has 70 million registered users. As a reminder, it made its debut yesterday and aims to compete with Twitter.
« 70 million registrations on Threads since this morning [aux États-Unis]. Far beyond our expectations”, said Mark Zuckerberg, the boss of Meta, the parent company of Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and therefore Threads.
Mark Zuckerberg has shared several data since the launch. The milestone of two million subscribers was reached within two hours of the launch. There were then five million registrants after the first four hours. In seven hours, it was 10 million users. Another milestone was 30 million users several hours later. And so there are now 70 million registered users on Threads. The data was shared an hour ago.
One of the main reasons Threads is so popular is that people can sign up using their Instagram account information. Given that Instagram has over two billion users, the potential for users on the new social network is enormous.
And again, the platform is currently not available in the countries of the European Union. We can therefore suspect that the milestone of 100 million users could already have been reached if it were available on the continent.
The unavailability in Europe is explained by the Digital Markets Act (DMA). Meta must ensure that Threads complies with European legislation regarding user data.
