Start-up wants to reduce traffic jams and CO2 with smart sensors

The Israeli start-up NoTraffic wants to use smart sensors to reduce traffic jams and CO2 emissions. In addition to Japan, Italy and Great Britain, Germany is also a target market for the company.

In recent years, the number of cars on our roads has increased steadily. However, many sections of the route are congested and are becoming a place where progress is almost impossible. As a result, the Germans are stuck in traffic for several days every year.

But that could soon be over. At least if it’s after Israeli start-ups Notraffic goes. Because the company wants to equip roads and intersections with smart sensors to avoid traffic jams. The sensors are to transmit data about the traffic flow and other parameters wirelessly to a control center.

Sensors and other data are intended to avoid or resolve traffic jams

The company offers its technology as a software-as-a-service solution. An algorithm enriches the collected data with additional information. These can be video recordings of a certain section of the route. An artificial intelligence then makes suggestions as to how the traffic flow can be improved.

On this basis, a traffic manager should then decide which measures should actually be implemented. Notraffic states that the implementation of recommendations has reduced travel times by up to 70 percent. In Arizona, the company also eliminated more than a mile of congestion.

Cooperation planned with authorities around the world

The figures presented by the company indicate improved traffic flow and greater road safety. Another advantage: By avoiding or reducing traffic jams, the company says it would also reduce CO2 emissions. For this reason, Notraffic intends to market its technology worldwide soon.

To this end, the company plans to work with transport ministries in Europe, Great Britain and Japan by the end of 2023. Germany is also considered a target market. In the future, sensors on our trunk roads could provide a better overview and eliminate some frustrating traffic jams or resolve them as quickly as possible.
