Major software update will change smartphones forever
Actually, all Samsung smartphones should already have this function, which Google made mandatory with Android 13. But Samsung has a special status with Google and you probably don’t see it that closely. But that could finally change with Android 14 and One UI 6.0. Seamless updates should also be used on Samsung devices.
Samsung phones are said to support seamless updates
Google integrated seamless updates into the Android operating system a few years ago. With it you install new software updates in the background and never have to look at the screen you see in the cover photo above on your Samsung phone again when you install an update.
To make this possible, a Copy of the operating system created on a second partition and the software update installed in the background. During the update process you can use the mobile phone as normal. After a restart, the new software is installed immediately. This is exactly what has been happening with Pixel phones for a long time and should finally work with Samsung devices as well.
Accordingly, the seamless updates be integrated with the upcoming software One UI 6 based on Android 14. It is unclear whether it only applies if you buy a cell phone with pre-installed Android 14 and One UI 6 or also as an update. Both are possible and have already been implemented by manufacturers.
That would be a huge relief, especially for Samsung phones that get a software update every month and a major Android upgrade every year. I personally find Seamless Update on my Pixel phone to be great asset.

Next Samsung event is coming up
As early as the end of July 2023, Samsung will host the next Unpacked Event, where it is highly likely that new folding cell phones, tablets and smartwatches will be presented. There will probably still be One UI 5.1. One UI 6.0 should not be distributed until autumn or winter, when Google finishes Android 14. Then at the latest we will find out whether the new function will really be integrated.
