Android 14: beta 3.1 is available

Google is making beta 3.1 available today for Android 14. It is intended to be minor, especially compared to previous versions distributed in recent weeks.

According to Google’s notes, the Android 14 beta 3.1 fixes two issues:

  • Fixed issues where fingerprint unlock was either unavailable or unusable on some devices.
  • Fixed platform compatibility issues that affected mapping SDKs, causing dependent apps to crash in some cases.

The first beta was released on April 12. Then there was Beta 1.1 on May 26, Beta 2 on May 10, Beta 2.1 on May 29, and Beta 3 last week. Google also indicated that beta 3 brought the first stage of stability of the platform with the APIs (level 34) and the behaviors of the finalized system. Developers are encouraged to begin final testing and development work necessary to ensure that a compatible version of their apps will be ready for users when Android 14 is released in final form.

Android 14 beta 3.1 is available now on Pixel smartphones. You can get it from your phone settings if you have the previous version. You can also join the beta program at this address. Otherwise, you can do a manual installation by getting the update file on the Google site.
