‘My mother? John, he’s always drunk!’

From a son who cheerfully says that mom knocks back six bottles every week or a toddler who pretends to be abused. They sometimes invent tall tales, those little dragons.
Jill (30), mother of Kai (5) and Febe (3):
“Unsuspectingly, I entered Kai’s class when his teacher asked if I might have a moment. She had something to discuss, based on what Kai had said in the circle, though she was pretty sure it was nonsense.
Wine all day
That Monday morning, Kai said he hadn’t done anything fun this weekend because his mom had been on the couch all day. Teacher inquired with interest whether Mum had been ill. But no, he had said, Mama was tired. And that was because she “drinks wine all day, six bottles a week.”

I didn’t know where to look in surprise. We don’t drink alcohol at all. Not even a drop! When I asked at home why the hell he said that, Kai took me to the garage. There were six empty wine bottles left over from a birthday party. He thought that I had made them all soldiers myself. I fervently hoped his classmates hadn’t told them about Kai’s alcoholic mother at home.”

Nice, such a phase
Eva (33), mother of Abigail (7):
“It’s a phase. But not fun. As a toddler my daughter had a tendency to say ‘DON’T HIT MOM! DON’T HUR!” or shout something along those lines when I refused or rebuked her. Also regularly in or around school. To be clear, I never touched her with a single finger. But you get a lot of strange and angry looks, I can tell you. Rightly so, of course.”
