Soon you may no longer be able to use ad blockers on YouTube

Google wants to end the use of ad blockers on YouTube. For example, it is currently testing a tool that counteracts those ad blockers on the video platform.

Against ad blockers

Google has confirmed to IGN (via IGN Benelux) that it is conducting an experiment with ad blockers. People who also use their ad blockers for YouTube are blocked from the platform. Something that was first discussed on discussion site Reddit. Redditor Sazk100 posted a screenshot of a popup on YouTube. It stated that ad blockers are no longer allowed on YouTube.

The only way to get out of the ads is to stop letting YouTube take their ad blocker or get a YouTube Premium account. With a subscription to Premium you no longer have ads and you get access to the original films and series that YouTube makes, in addition to being able to download videos.

Lots of advertising on YouTube

Partly in order to increase the number of Premium accounts, Google and YouTube have recently added more and more advertisements. Before and in the middle of videos, you’re regularly stopped by one to three commercials. It is a great annoyance for many users, who then set up an ad blocker. However, it is also a way that YouTube and the creators on YouTube generate income. So it makes sense that Google wants to fight it. We at Androidworld can also use the income from advertisements to continue to offer you our great content.

Google writes in the email response to IGN: “We are conducting a small global experiment urging viewers with ad blockers enabled to allow ads on YouTube or try YouTube Premium. Ad blocker detection is not new and other publishers regularly ask viewers to disable ad blockers.”

YouTube

YouTube is Google’s video platform and it is the most popular platform for videos worldwide. More than 122 million people use YouTube every day, happy that ..

It is indeed not new, but maybe Google and YouTube put a little too much on the ads. For example, the income for advertisements has fallen sharply in recent years (since 2017) and there is even talk of an ‘Adpocalypse’. The question is: will the ad blockers win, or will YouTube and Google?

What do you think: who is right, or is there a middle ground? Leave it now in the comments.
