The neighbors are too loud? With this smart device you can take revenge
How is it actually possible that with roughly 83 million people living in Germany, the people above me who practice tap dancing preferably at night and on the weekends and who otherwise behave in a highly disruptive manner always live above me?
In a situation like this, it would be constructive to go upstairs, have a conversation – and hope for the best. If you like it a little more passive-aggressive, tap the broomstick against the ceiling – and hope for the best. And if you just want to see everything burn – build a nerve device.
Tallywhacker – in German: Schniedel – calls a resourceful one Reddit user the device he built solely to drive his upstairs neighbors insane. For this purpose, a spring door stopper is hit by a sheet of plastic at irregular intervals of 5 to 30 seconds.

The result is the vibration of a powerful spring that is transmitted directly to the ground. In line with the 21st century, the device fits into its creator’s smart home thanks to an Arduino platform and can be switched on or off with a corresponding voice command.
The Tallywhacker’s plastic bow is powered by a motor actually found in remote control cars, spring doorstops are available for a few bucks and thankfully the creator has them Arduino code also made available – if you want to torment your own neighbors, you can easily rebuild the apparatus.
And because people – tap-dancing neighbors or tallywhackers – are ultimately civilized and have something of an aesthetic awareness, the inventor added a cover for the 3D-printed tallywhacker. That doesn’t look like anything else either – what are the neighbors supposed to think?
Despite all the enthusiasm for this creative project, t3n would like to expressly point out that we assume no liability if you replicate the tallywhacker and become homeless as a result.
