Beware of these malware apps: uninstall them right away

Researchers from the security company McAfee have found more than 60 apps in the Play Store that contain malware. The malware has been named Goldoson and can collect information about installed apps, among other things.

Goldoson malware

The Goldoson malware can also access previously connected devices via Wi-Fi and Bluetooth and extract GPS locations from them. In addition, the malware can click ads in the background without user consent. This is called ad fraud. The malware was not created by the developers of the affected apps, but by someone else.

McAfee reported the names of the apps in question to Google and the search giant immediately took action. Google sent these developers a message noting that their apps violated Google Play policies and that they had to make changes in order to be approved. Some apps were eventually removed while others were updated by the developers.
