A record number of tablets have been sold in the last quarter
Tablets are not as attractive a market for manufacturers as smartphones, and the only successful company in this market is the American Apple. Several brands have even left the market in recent years. Paradoxically, however, in the last quarter, according to the portal GSMarena sold a record number of these devices.
However, Apple is the first traditionally Apple to record sales
The portal relies on the statistics of the analytical company in making this claim Canalys. According to her, 52.8 million tablets were sold in the last quarter of last year, which is the most in history in terms of quarterly results. Of course, the market has traditionally been dominated by Apple with 19.2 million iPads sold. The year before, it had sold 13.7 million. Sales thus increased by up to 40% year-on-year. Samsung had an even bigger year-on-year increase of up to 41% in second place. In Q4 2020, it sold 9.9 million Galaxy Tab tablets. The year before it was 7.1 million.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 premium tablets also contribute to this, which are decent work tools thanks to the S-pen and the touchpad keyboard. Chinese company Huawei, on the other hand, fell 24% year-on-year from 4.5 million to 3.5 million units sold. The US Amazon was also in fourth place with an increase of 54% and 6.5 million Fire tablets sold. The Chinese Lenovo had the largest increase in sales of up to 125%. It sold 5.6 million tablets. The year before it was 2.5 million pieces.
The same ranking is in sales statistics for the full year 2020. Apple managed to sell 58.8 million iPads for the whole year. Samsung has sold 31 million Galaxy Tab series tablets in the last 12 months. This is 40% more than in 2019. The sales numbers of Huawei, Amazon and Lenovo for the whole of 2020 were very similar. In the first case it was 16.3 million, in the second 15.9 million and in the third 14.2 million. A total of 160.6 million tablets were sold last year, which is 32% more than in 2019.
Chromebooks have done well
The analytical company Canalys also brought sales statistics in the entire PC segment, including desktops, laptops and even Chromebooks. It was they who saw a significant increase in sales. In the fourth quarter of 2020, 11.2 million units were sold, which is a year-on-year increase of up to 287%. For the whole of 2020, 30.7 million were sold, which is 109% more than in 2019. Their most prevalent manufacturer was HP, followed by Lenovo, Dell, Acer and Samsung.
