Mama has corona: ‘Isolate yourself at home? It’s impossible’

The fact that I have corona is no shock to me. I have been battling with a snot and a fever for days and I am already worn out walking from the couch to the bed. In short: different from a simple flu that I normally take down with two paracetamol.

That after the positive result I have to go into self-isolation – and because of this I am in my Remi in the bedroom for seven days (or: 168 hours, or: 10,080 minutes)? That comes as an unpleasant surprise after the phone call from the GGD.

Not rocket science

Sleeping separately. Eat separately. Washing separately and disinfecting everything I touch with military precision for man and child: it’s none rocket science you would think, were it not for the fact that there is a toddler of 2.5 hopping around here in the house who really cannot explain to you that he is not allowed to see, touch and especially not give kisses to mommy.

After endless knocking on the bedroom door, hysterical tantrums and hours of ‘mama’ as a mantra from the living room, we decide to put the isolation aside after day two. It just doesn’t work with a child.

Ten days

Good as I am, I do call the GGD to ask if I am not getting a huge claim on my pants (yes, I know a lot), but miraculously the employee understands better than anyone that going into isolation is a difficult job is with a toddler. But one thing: this means that the husband and child have to be quarantined for another ten days from the day that I no longer have complaints. Ten. That damn incubation period.

Hugs and kisses

Another downer, but you know? We just make it ten pleasant days with lots of extra kisses and hugs. Because one advantage: I can no longer infect anyone and I am immune for the coming weeks;).
