‘Speed and power M2 Max chip known’
On Twitter Test scores today circulated for an alleged M2 Max chip in the famed Geekbench 5 benchmark. The tests were performed with a ’12-core CPU and with 96GB of memory’. ShrimpApplePro, an Apple analyst we often hear rumors from, shared the test results.
The test score mentioned a ‘Mac 14.6’. This could indicate a new MacBook Pro or Mac Studio. In this article you can read all about the speeds and what they mean for the new Macs.
The scores are striking from purported M2 Max chip
At the moment you get the current MacBook Pros with a maximum of 64GB of RAM. The Mac Studio can be purchased with 128 GB if you take the M1 Ultra chip. It is therefore striking that we are talking about a Mac that is in between with 96GB.
According to the test, the M2 Max chip scored 1853 points in single-core and 13,855 in multi-core. The previous M1 Max chip in the Mac Studio tested 1755 in single-core and 12,333 in multi-core. Now we understand that you don’t understand this at all, so we’ll explain it in normal human language. If this is correct, it means that the M2 Max chip will not be much faster and more powerful than the current M1 Max chip.
MacBook Pro is now almost in need of an update
We can somewhat verify this news. The tests were performed on macOS Ventura 13.2. This is a software version that is not yet in beta testing. That means that it has almost been an internal test at Apple. We expect Apple to release new Macs at the beginning of 2023. It is therefore not entirely illogical that these results have been leaked.
For example, we actually expected new MacBook Pros in 2022, but it seems that this has been postponed to early next year. In addition, we are also waiting for a new iMac and for years for a Mac Pro with the Apple Silicon technology. These tests with the M2 Max chip seem to bode well for launch.
