Now it’s the turn of the Apple Watch Ultra’s screen, which is made of durable sapphire glass. Apple’s most expensive, largest and most rugged watch is designed for adventurers. You would therefore think that the screen is also resistant to scratches. However?
Unfortunately that is a bit disappointing. The test shows that the screen of the Apple Watch Ultra starts to scratch slightly at level 6 on the Mohs scale. It is used to indicate the hardness of telephone screens, among other things, and runs from 1 to 10.
The Galaxy Watch 5 from competitor Samsung also shows the first scratches at level 6. However, this smartwatch is a lot cheaper and the scratches are less deep. The Garmin Fenix 7 does even better, as that watch passes level 6 and 7 almost unscathed.
How is that possible? Apple mixes the Watch Ultra’s sapphire glass with other materials. Sapphire is very precious. Garmin probably uses the purest form of these three watches.
