Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey apologizes after massive layoffs by Elon Musk
Jack Dorsey, co-founder and ex-boss of Twitter, has decided to take responsibility for the massive layoffs that took place at the social network, at the request of Elon Musk, who wants to be the new leader since the takeover.
Jack Dorsey’s reaction to Twitter layoffs
It is through two tweets that Jack Dorsey reacted, acknowledging his choices on the organization of Twitter:
The people of Twitter, past and present, are strong and resilient. They will always find a way, no matter how difficult the moment. I realize that many are angry with me. I am responsible for why everyone is in this situation: I increased the size of the company too quickly. I am sorry for that.
I am grateful and love everyone who has worked on Twitter. I don’t expect it to be reciprocated right now…or ever…and I get it.
Folks at Twitter past and present are strong and resilient. They will always find a way no matter how difficult the moment. I realize many are angry with me. I own the responsibility for why everyone is in this situation: I grew the company size too quickly. I apologize for that.

Before parting with around 50% of Twitter’s staff (about 3,700 people), including 15% of the content moderation team, Elon Musk also fired Parag Agrawal (ex-Twitter boss who had succeeded Jack Dorsey) and a number of other executives, including chief financial officer Ned Segal and chief policy officer Vijaya Gadde.
Elon Musk bought Twitter on October 27 for $44 billion, after six months of a rocky acquisition. He took the company off the stock market and launched major projects on very short notice, while tweeting all sorts of promises.
