This gadget fits any shoe and increases your running speed
Researchers at Carnegie Mellon University in the US have developed a gadget that can turn any shoe into a kind of roller skate. The so-called moonwalkers apparently even make it possible to run three times faster.
Nowadays there are already dozens of ways to get from A to B. Especially in the field of micromobility, scooters and e-scooters complement the streetscape of many large cities. But that is obviously not the end of it. Because if you want to be faster on foot, Shift Robotics now has an interesting gadget ready for you.
The company can look back on a relatively young company history and emerged from research at Carnegie Mellon University in the US state of Pennsylvania. The first product is called Moonwalkers.
Moonwalkers turns shoes into roller skates
Meanwhile, the gadget can turn almost any shoe into a kind of roller skate. Shift Robotics promises three times faster running. It is attached using Velcro fasteners that hold a small motor and the rollers on the sole. Each motor in turn has an output of 300 watts and drives a total of eight wheels per shoe.
An intelligent algorithm ensures the balance between the feet so that the legs are always at the same height. This synchronizes the status of one foot with the other and calculates the balance of the wearer. But what difference does wearing the moonwalkers make?
Delivery after success on Kickstarter
According to the manufacturer, the running speed increases by up to 250 percent. This assumption is based on the fact that the average human moves at a speed of around four to six kilometers per hour. The top speed of the moonwalkers is about 11.2 kilometers per hour.
However, this should not be at the expense of safety. It is possible to brake or stand still after about 0.9 meters. The battery lasts another ten kilometers. The construction can also be stowed in a backpack. Via Kickstarter You can pre-order the Moonwalkers for $999. The final product will cost around $1,400.
