“In the morning I was woken up with an icy scream”

It can be quite a drama, those sleepovers in the house. But yeah, it’s so much fun for the kids.

Yvonne (38), mother of Johnny (8) and Suze (4):

“Mats, Johnny’s boyfriend had lactose intolerance. Whether we wanted to take that into account during the overnight stay, otherwise he would spit up according to his mother. According to her, Mats knew exactly what he was allowed to do and what not, she only warned to be sure. I needed no more encouragement. I really don’t like puking children, especially other people’s children. I screened each label for the presence of milk or any of its components down to the decimal point. We ate veggie burgers because he tolerated them well and I bought non-dairy crisps for dinner at the movies.

Is that milk then?

The night went well: the boys had a great time and the sleepover was a success. But at seven o’clock in the morning I was awakened with an agonizing scream: Màààm, Mats has spit! My entire kitchen floor, table and chairs were covered with a sour-smelling brown gunk. I almost went over my neck myself. As it turned out, the gentlemen had poured themselves a glass of chocolate milk. How could that be? Didn’t Mats know so well that he wasn’t allowed milk? “Oh,” the victim said sadly. No, he really didn’t know there was milk in chocolate milk.”

Exhausted

Lina (38), mother of Andi (11) and Indra (4):

“After a sleepover, son Andi came home at eleven o’clock in the morning, got into bed with clothes and all and slept through until five o’clock. He was broken. The sleepover with eight boys had been too much fun and had lasted all night. Then he wasn’t tired in the evenings and it took almost the whole weekend to get his rhythm back. Both we and he were completely unsettled.”
