Tickets will be more expensive from December
Deutsche Bahn will raise prices, like so many other things, train travel will become more expensive. Not all tickets and journeys are equally affected. But nowhere is it cheaper. The DB wants to counter rising energy prices with something like this – the costs are borne by the passengers.

Deutsche Bahn (DB) is raising prices. When the timetable changes in December, it will be more expensive for many travelers and commuters. Price increases are not unusual at DB at the turn of the year. This year, however, the high energy costs are explicitly cited as the reason: “Like many other companies, DB is forced to to react to the massive price increases with an adjustment of prices”according to the company.
The higher energy prices hit rail passengers twice, as consumers at home and when traveling by rail. On average, they should DB prices for long-distance transport will rise by around 5 percent. While saver and super saver prices as well as seat reservations remain unchanged, the flex price without a specific train has increased by an average of 6.9 percent.
Even those who want to buy a discount have to dig deeper into their pockets, because they also want to charge more for BahnCards. Both BahnCards 25, 500 and 100 are to have their prices increased by 4.9 percent (Source: dpa via Editorial network Germany). For example, the BahnCard 50 currently costs 234 euros per year. With an increase of 4.9 percent, that would mean an annual price of around 245.50 euros in the future.
The new prices apply to journeys from December 11, 2022. They will be available for sale on October 12th. The previous prices also apply between October 12th and December 11th. The German tariff association has already announced price increases of 4 percent on average for regional transport.

No chance for savers: advance booking only until December 10th
Anyone hoping to avoid the price increase by booking early before October 12th will be disappointed. The booking system of the DB already allows explicitly only bookings until December 10th to. The key date on which the price increase will take effect is thus set.
