‘If I see a frog or toad, I can cry’
When Fleur sees a frog, she prefers to quickly run in the other direction. Fortunately, besides a few jokes, her children understand that her frog phobia is very serious.
Fleur (42), mother of two daughters aged 11 and 7:
“As a child, a frog jumped on my air mattress at sailing camp. I’ve been terrified of those animals ever since. If I see a frog or toad, I can cry. My father was a biologist and laughed at me. He refused to come home especially when the cat dropped another half-dead toad in the house. Once I locked myself in the bathroom because of a frog. My friend had to get out of work to save me.

Hand in hand
The children are now doing that, luckily they don’t have a frog phobia. They think a scared mama is funny, but they do warn me. During a holiday in Denmark we went to the beach in the evening. On the way back there were suddenly a hundred frogs on the dune path. My daughters then guided me to the car by hand.
Frogs in the garden
The day we got the key to our house, I discovered that the ditch was full of frogs. I felt so stupid that we had just bought a house on the water. Fortunately it is not that bad, but during a storm they often jump into our garden and I stay inside.”
