Improved 865 for 2021

After the flag chipset, the Snapdragon 888 is presented by its American manufacturer another new chipset that should have a slightly weaker performance. But this is not at all surprising, because according to the portal TheVerge is Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 only the restored 7 nm Snapdragon 865 chipset.

The frequency rises to 3.2 GHz

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 has the same Kryo 585 processor core architecture as the Snapdragon 865. However, their clock frequency is up to 3.2 GHz. In the Snapdragon 865 it was 2.84 GHz and in the case of the improved model of the Snapdragon 865 Plus 3.1 GHz. The graphics are again taken care of by the Adreno 650 graphics core. The original 5G modem Snapdragon X55 is also original, which reaches speeds of up to 7.5 Gb / s in a 5G network. It supports all frequently used frequencies, including Sub-6 millimeter waves.

Of course, there is also support for Wi-Fi 6 networks, in which the chipset reaches a maximum transfer rate of up to 1.8 Gb / s. Interestingly, Qualcomm did not install the chipset with Qualcomm FastConnect 6900 technology from Snapdragon 875 Plus. Instead, there is the older Qualcomm FastConnect 6800 technology. It is used for fast pairing with other devices via Bluetooth.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 5G

Like last year’s model, the novelty supports Super Wide Band audio transmission via Bluetooth, thanks to which it can transfer music to headphones in higher quality with lower response and power consumption. It can also process 2 Gpx images per second, so it can playfully not only record 4K HDR video with a billion colors, but also 8K video and 200-Mpx photos. Dolby Vision HDR video recording is also available.

The first models with the new chipset will be on the market in the second quarter

The manufacturer Qualcomm calculates that the new chipset will be used mainly by upper-middle-class smartphones. In the case of Samsung, it could be used, for example, by the highest model of the Galaxy A series. According to the portal AROGED it will also be used by the Redmi K40 smartphone from Xiaomi. The Snapdragon 870 will be available to manufacturers this quarter. The first smartphones to use it are likely to appear in the second quarter. In addition to Xiaomi, the list of companies that have already ordered a new chipset includes Motorola, OnePlus or Oppo.
