dim screen, improved Remote app and more

Although the Apple Watch is already ready for watchOS 8 this fall, there appears to be still plenty to improve. A new concept zooms in on a new Dim mode and a much improved Remote app.

watchOS 8 concept improves Remote app

Attentive readers will have noticed that we also discussed a watchOS 8 concept yesterday. The design (created by 9to5mac) today zooms in on some specific parts of the Apple Watch, each with clever improvements.

1. Dim screen

One of those smart improvements is the new ‘Dim Display Mode’. As the name suggests, this is a special mode that will dim the screen, but still allow you to read the time and see a complication. With this, the concept comes up with an improved version of the energy-saving mode, which turns the screen off completely. By only using shades of gray, the Apple Watch Series 5 and Series 6 can still be used and hardly use any battery.

2. Make-over for the Remote app

The Remote app has hardly changed since the first Apple Watch, but Apple’s streaming and TV ambitions have grown. High time to tackle the watchOS app as well. In the concept we see how the small screen is used to the maximum.

This way you can see per device which show you have watched most recently, so that you can continue watching at the touch of a button. You can then immediately choose the device on which you want to continue watching.

The Remote part of the Remote app has not forgotten the concept: with a new design you can give commands with your voice, or quickly pause or play something again. By turning the digital crown you can quickly adjust the volume of your TV via the Apple TV.

3. Other watchOS 8 ideas

The concept closes with a number of smaller improvements. For example, there is a new view in the form of a grid, which places a maximum of four apps on your screen. That makes them faster and easier to tap. Handy for people who don’t actively use that many apps on their Apple Watch. An exclusive (Product) RED dial completes the concept.

When will watchOS 8 be unveiled?

With the end of January in sight, the official unveiling of watchOS 8 is also getting closer. As always, the new update will be presented at WWDC alongside new versions of iOS, macOS and tvOS. The developer fair is traditionally held in June. Last year the fair was organized completely digitally, which probably (unfortunately) will not be different in 2021.
