TikTok can not only protect you with a password, but also with two-step verification. You set up this extra layer of security as follows.

What is two-step verification?

There are a number of different names for ‘two-step verification’, such as ‘two-step authentication’, ‘two-factor authentication’, ‘login verification’ and ‘two-step authentication’. It all boils down to the same thing: Two-step verification adds an extra layer of security to your account in case your password is no longer secure. This also protects your account from unrecognized and unauthorized third-party devices or apps.

For example, if a hacker has obtained your username and password, he can easily log in to your account. Since two-step verification (2SV) adds another layer of protection to your account, logging in is already a lot more difficult for a hacker. That’s because the extra layer of protection requires a code that is generated with a special app. Examples of those apps are Google Authenticator and Bitwarden. You must also enter this code after entering your username and password before you can access your account.

These codes are also sometimes sent by text message, but that is becoming less common. Text messages with the codes are susceptible to phishing attacks and many companies therefore opt for verification via a special app.

Two-step verification for TikTok

TikTok also offers two-step verification that you can turn on in the app. Unfortunately, Fitbit does opt for the less secure text messages to send the code. Fortunately, you can also opt for e-mail, but not for a special app as mentioned above. Follow these steps to add the extra layer of protection to your TikTok account:

1. Make sure you have downloaded the latest version of TikTok.
2. Tap on Profile bottom right.
3. Tap the three lines at the top right.
4. Tap on Settings and privacy
5. Tap on Security
6. Tap on 2-step verification and choose at least two verification methods
7. Tap on Switch to confirm
8. If you haven’t entered your contact details before, you will be prompted to enter an email address and phone number
9. Tap on Send code and on the next screen enter the verification code sent to you via SMS and email

The next time you log in, a verification code will be sent to your email or phone. Enter the code in the 2-step verification prompt on your screen to log in,
