‘Pixel 7 (Pro) cameras completely leaked: all about the hardware’

A developer has leaked all the information about the Pixel 7 series camera hardware. There are no major hardware upgrades, but the developer also found indications of a high-end, possibly an ‘Ultra’ variant. Information has also been leaked about the cameras of a foldable phone.

Pixel 7 cameras

Google already gave us an unexpected look at the Pixel 7 series in May, but we did not receive any information about the specifications of the two top phones. A developer called Kuba Wojciechowski has now discovered everything about the cameras of the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro in code from Google.

The two phones keep their 50MP Samsung ISOCELL GN1 main camera, as does the 12MP IMX381 main camera. We already know them both from the Pixel 6 series. The Pixel 7 base model gets an upgrade for the selfie camera, because it now works with the same 11 MP sensor as the Pro version. Last year, the Pixel 6 Pro got a better 11MP selfie camera compared to the 8MP sensor of the base Pixel 6 model. Earlier it was leaked that Google is opting for a better selfie camera for its Pixel 7.

No major upgrade

In terms of the periscope camera, Google will make changes to its Pixel 7 Pro. The 48MP Sony IMX586 camera is exchanged for the GM1 sensor from Samsung. It is not clear why Google is making that switch, because Samsung’s camera sensor is not a real upgrade on paper, rather an alternative.

If you take everything together, you can conclude that Google will not give a major hardware upgrade to the cameras of its phones. The company may want to improve its software, especially image processing and camera functions.

Pixel Notepad and Pixel 7 Ultra

Wojciechowski also shares a number of remarkable finds. For example, he discovered the camera hardware for a Pixel 7 variant that is even more powerful than the Pro version. In addition to the 50 MP main camera and the 12 MP wide-angle camera, Google wants to add an extra IMX787 sensor to this phone, which is a 64 MP camera. It is not clear how Google intends to use that camera.

Finally, the specifications of a foldable Pixel phone have also been leaked. News about a so-called ‘Pixel Notepad’ pops up regularly, but the future of the device is still very uncertain. According to the information the developer has found out, the phone will come with a 50MP GN1 camera, a 12MP IMX363 and a 12MP IMX386. What do you think about the specifications in this article? Let us know in the comments.
