What you need to know now
If you have ever wanted to buy white goods, i.e. a refrigerator, a washing machine or similar, you have certainly come across the AO shop. Although the online retailer has established itself as a MediaMarkt alternative, the last source of supply has now also been closed.
AO is also closing the online shop
After the well-known electronics retailer with a focus on white goods AO closed its local shops in June 2022, the online shop has now also been shut down. With that, a tough competitor of MediaMarkt in Germany says goodbye. AO was known for good prices on refrigerators, washing machines and other household products. The large devices were delivered with their own vans, so that good customer loyalty could be established. But the business probably didn’t pay off, so the website has now also been shut down.
What customers need to know now:
- Open orders that you have placed with AO will probably still be carried out. You have to log into the AO website and you can see the status there.
- If you no longer have the receipt for your purchase, you can get it also download it from the website.
- You can also return your purchase within the statutory cancellation period, but no longer after that.
- In the event of defects, you must contact the manufacturer directly.
- The “AO Carefree Insurance” still applies, because you didn’t take it out with AO, but with “Domestic & General Insurance Europe AG”.
- You can only reach customer service by email to ao.kundenservice@ao.de.
When buying new devices, you should pay attention to the energy label so as not to waste electricity unnecessarily:
Good news for MediaMarkt and Co.
Since AO has now completely disappeared from the German market and only wants to concentrate on business in Great Britain, MediaMarkt, Saturn, but also Amazon or Expert can be happy. One less competitor on the list that could lure customers away from them. On the other hand, a new player has just started in Germany: Coolblue from the Netherlands.
