Sick on vacation? New AOK app brings the doctor to the cell phone
With AOK Navida, the health insurance company has presented a new app that can be particularly useful on vacation. A video consultation can be set up with a doctor in Germany from abroad. However, AOK Navida is not available to all insured persons.

Members of the health insurance company AOK Plus from Saxony and Thuringia now have free access to the new AOK Navida app. Anyone who falls ill while on holiday abroad can use the app consult a doctor in Germany via video. The health insurance company promises that such a doctor’s appointment should be made within four hours. The service is also offered on weekends and public holidays.
According to AOK, the online consultation via Navida is TÜV-certified and offers “highest security”. All doctors have a German license. Especially at typical travel illnesses such as gastrointestinal diseases, colds or food poisoning, Navida should be helpful. Doctors can also use the app to issue private prescriptions that can be used abroad.
Before the online consultation, patients are asked in the app do a symptom check. Five questions about the state of health can be optionally answered here. According to the AOK, the app then creates possible diagnoses and also gives initial recommendations for action. If desired, the symptom check can also be skipped.
The AOK would like to further expand Navida in the future so that the app becomes a Everyday companion for health issues becomes. With “Dr. Google”, as the announcement says, can already take on the app (source: AOK Plus).
