All Google Pixel Watch specs at a glance
The Google Pixel Watch has now been officially presented, but not yet for sale. Behind the scenes, Google is working on the introduction of the smartwatch, but what specs can we expect?
Google presented the Pixel Watch at its I/O 2022 developer conference. Well presented… they showed it for the first time. Many details did not come out right away, so it is a matter of speculation. We briefly summarize it.
Battery
The wearable will be equipped with a battery with a capacity of just under 300 mAh. According to sources from the well-researched 9to5google.com, that would mean that the watch will last about a day on a single charge.
The question is under which conditions this was measured. For example, is the Always-on display (AOD) on? Is sleep monitoring included? We do not know that. In itself, a day is not exceptional for Wear OS. For example, Samsung claims 40 hours for its Galaxy Watch. If you use the Pixel Watch intensively and also want to monitor your sleep, it would be desirable for the smartwatch to last a little longer than a day on the battery.
Charging would then take almost two hours. We would not immediately call that fast charging. It is to be hoped that these figures will be improved a bit before the wearable is actually in the shops. We will see.
Processor
The expected processor in the Google Pixel Watch is Samsung’s Exynos 9110. We know this chip from the Samsung Galaxy Watch from 2018. The reason they use this relatively old processor is probably because the project has been running for a while. When Google started developing the Pixel Watch, this was the latest chip. Switching now would cause too much delay.
It’s a shame that after such a long wait, the wearable does not have the latest processor on board. Anyway, the smartwatch is not yet on the market, so we could still be wrong.
Storage
Google is leading the way here. The Pixel Watch seems to get 32 GB of storage. This makes it the wearable, with Wear OS on board, with the most storage space. So there was plenty of room to download your favorite music or podcasts on your smartwatch and listen to it offline.
Google’s wearable will also be ahead in terms of RAM. The site 9to5google claims that sources indicate that more than 1.5 GB of RAM will be in the Pixel Watch. That’s good news for Wear OS performance.
fitness specs
The sensors on the Google smartwatch look identical in the pictures to the sensors on the Fitbit Luxe and Charge 5. That means an optical heart rate monitor, infrared sensors for monitoring oxygen saturation and a temperature sensor for skin tracking during the night.
For example, the wearable can measure your heart rate and your cardio fitness level 24/7. Food for speculation is whether the Pixel Watch will soon also be able to do an electrocardiogram (ECG) measurement. More details are needed for this, but in any case a second sensor is needed at a different point of the watch. That is not yet easy to see.
Incidentally, it is not so strange that the Google Pixel Watch uses sensors from the Fitbit. After all, Google took ownership of Fitbit last year.
Personalization
There is no wearable on the market without extensive possibilities for personalization. So Google comes with a whole series of watch bands. The Pixel Watch has its own connection for the watch straps that do not click in, but rather slide into place. It has been developed in such a way that it should be easy to change the straps.
During the I/O 2022 we saw the smartwatch with a white watch band, probably made of silicone. A handful of colors have already been shown. According to the sources of the aforementioned site, the company is developing about seven types of watch bands for the Google Pixel Watch, including the standard silicone variant.
For every budget
The company works on watch bands for every budget. We discuss them from expensive to affordable. First of all, a Milanese style band. The band is woven stainless steel mesh and will have a magnetic closure. It will be available in the same colors as the watch itself: silver, black and gold.
Work is also underway on a link bracelet. The massive steel watch straps that we also see on the expensive watches of many rappers. This could turn out to be an expensive option.
Furthermore, there will be two types of leather bands in different shades and, in the affordable segment, Google will come with fabric and stretch bands.
The launch of the Google Pixel Watch is yet to come. In the fall, the company will announce more and we will also know how many of the above expectations will actually come true.
