8x fine free markets on King’s Day
It is one of the nicest things on King’s Day: strolling along the many stalls with second-hand knick-knacks. For a ‘new’ children’s bicycle, block box or puzzle, you can go to one of these nice free markets in the Netherlands on King’s Day.

1. Free market in Utrecht
In Utrecht, the free market starts on the evening before King’s Day, at 6 p.m. sharp. The market ends at 6pm the next day. There are various children’s flea markets throughout the city where your children are given the space to sell things, make music or paint without being hindered by commercial stands or noise nuisance.

2. Free market in Rotterdam
King’s Day in Rotterdam is very special this year, because the royal family will be visiting. Normally you go to the Binnenrotte for the free market, but because of the king’s birthday this has been moved to the Wijkpark Oude Westen. You will also find free markets in other places in the center of Rotterdam, such as Schouwburgplein, Eendrachtsplein, Mauritsweg and Westersingel. You can score all kinds of second-hand stuff, used toys and vintage clothing and food and drinks.

3. Free market in Amsterdam
Attention early birds: in Amsterdam you can be on the flea market from 06:00, although most of them officially start at 09:00. The Vondelpark in Amsterdam should of course not be missing from this list. Very child-friendly too, because the entire park is reserved for children who want to earn some extra pocket money. And the Vondelpark is not the only location that is kept free for children. You can also visit the Amstelveld, Rembrandtplein and the Erasmus Park, among others. Music lovers can enjoy great bands and delicious food at almost all locations in the city center.

4. Free market in Nijmegen
The Goffertpark in Nijmegen is packed with nice stalls early in the morning. Children can also watch puppet shows, climb on a climbing wall and let off steam on an assault course.

5. Free market in Den Bosch
On to the center of Den Bosch, where the children’s flea market will take place again this year. From 08:00 you can go to the Market for undiscovered pearls. All that browsing makes you hungry, so you will also find several food trucks.

6. Free market in Haarlem
The Kenaupark in Haarlem will be transformed into a flea market and family park. There is a free market, Haarlem artists, bouncy castles and fresh drinks and food trucks where you can eat together.

This city is also unpacking. Stroll along various (children’s) flea markets, such as at the Leijparkfestival, the Korvelseweg and in the Hasseltstraat, and score the best things for next to nothing.

From 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. you can browse the well-stocked rugs on the Singels in Groningen. There is a special children’s flea market on the Westerhaven, with music and food stalls.
