8 functions that the iPhone 13 really must have
Slowly but surely, September is getting closer and that means only one thing for Apple lovers: the new iPhones are coming! In this iPhone 13 wish list, we let Apple know which new functions should really not be missing.
Read on after the ad.
iPhone 13 Wish List: We hope for these improvements
With a few months to go, the net around the iPhone 13 is starting to close. The rumors are starting to repeat, so we already know a thing or two about the new Apple phones.
However, a person is allowed to dream, so in this article we will not limit ourselves to rumors about the iPhone 13, but we will publicly pass on our wish list to Apple for the new device.
1. Smaller notch and thinner bezels
Since the iPhone X from 2017, all Apple phones have looked pretty much the same and it’s time for that to change. The notch in particular may be overhauled.
This much-hated notch – which is needed for facial recognition – has been virtually identical since the iPhone of 2017. That is a shame, because other smartphones have taken steps and made the screen notch smaller.
Speaking of more screen space; hopefully Apple will manage to give the iPhone 13 narrower bezels. By making the screen edges smaller, you get more display space at your disposal, without the housing having to grow with it. That is only a win-win.

2. Smooth screen
If we look at the screen itself, we mainly hope that the successor to the iPhone 12 will get a ProMotion screen. Such a display has a much higher refresh rate, which makes animations look smoother than is currently the case.
That is the case. The iPhone 12 refreshes 60 times per second, while a ProMotion screen does this 120 times. You will notice this difference especially when scrolling through menus and viewing animations. Apple has no excuse not to give the iPhone 13 a ProMotion display, because the iPad Pro already has such a ‘smooth’ screen.
3. Always-on display
Now that we have picked up one of the best features of the iPad, let’s go shopping for the Apple Watch. We hope that the iPhone 13 will have an always-on display. As the name suggests, such a screen always stays on, just like on the Apple Watch Series 6.
The practical advantage of such a screen is that you can always read important information without having to unlock your phone. For example, you can read the weather, incoming messages and your activity rings at a glance from your iPhone screen.

4. Fastest version of 5G
The iPhone 12 is the first Apple smartphone with 5G, but the Dutch are still partly behind the net. The version sold here can only handle the low and medium frequency of the network.
In normal language this means that the fastest version of 5G (on the highest frequency) will pass you by when you buy an iPhone 12. Let’s hope that 5G on the iPhone 13 can handle all frequencies. Then you are optimally prepared for the future.

5. Return of Touch ID
With the exception of the renewed iPhone SE, the Apple phones of recent years no longer have Touch ID. The fingerprint scanner has long been replaced by Face ID, or face recognition.
We have noticed how annoying that can be last year. When face masks started to dominate the street scene, we found out how difficult Face ID works. Since iOS 14.5, an update to the iPhone software, the face unlock works again, provided you are wearing an Apple Watch.
Let’s hope Apple learned from this and brings Touch ID to the iPhone 13. This saves a lot of hassle, for example because not everyone has an Apple Watch.
The company already has the blueprint to bring back Touch ID. The iPad Air of 2020, for example, has a fingerprint scanner in the on / off button. You unlock the tablet by briefly placing your finger on the side button.
Another option is to move Touch ID to the back of the new iPhone. Some Android phones have opted for this solution before. It could also be that the iPhone 13 gets Touch ID under the screen. Since we’ve heard this rumor so many times, we don’t dare to bet money on it.
6. Lightning gives way to USB-C
One charger for your MacBook, iPad and iPhone: sounds great, right? Apple held on to its own Lightning chargers for years, but is gradually relinquishing control. More and more Apple products can handle USB-C, a much more widely supported standard.
We hope that Apple continues this line to the iPhone 13 and gives the new device a USB-C connection. That way you can connect the device to almost any (peripheral) equipment without having to work with connectors.
7. Reverse charging
On the subject of charging, as far as we are concerned, it is high time the iPhone got reverse charging. With this function you can power other items, such as your AirPods, by placing the box on the back of your phone.
The addition of reverse charging should be no rocket science because a lot of Android smartphones already have the feature.
8. Larger battery for mini model
If we can believe the rumors, the iPhone 12 mini will get a successor, but then the curtain falls and Apple will only release ‘large’ smartphones. So let’s hope that the iPhone 13 mini gets a smashing goodbye.
We especially want the device to get a larger battery. In our iPhone 12 mini review we were very positive about the small, powerful iPhone, but the battery was quite disappointing.
Looking ahead to the iPhone 13
Whether Apple will fulfill our wishes must become clear this fall. Then the company will announce the successors to the iPhone 12 series.
Bee iPhoned we follow all Apple rumors closely and that is why we already know a thing or two about the iPhone 13. On the device pages below, we talk about the ‘normal’ new iPhone, the 13 mini and the two Pro models. If you are more into watching, check out the video with iPhone 13 expectations.
