4G and 5G deployment: operator data for May 2023
The National Frequency Agency (ANFR) offers data concerning the deployment of 4G and 5G in May 2023 by the operators Orange, SFR, Bouygues Telecom and Free Mobile.
The most active operator in May was Orange with 273 new active 5G sites, bringing it to 6,789 in total. The second is SFR with 229 new 5G sites, for a total of 9,363. Bouygues Telecom comes behind with 209 new 5G sites in France, or 10,798 in total. Finally comes Free Mobile with 140 new 5G sites. He remains the one with the most, with a total of 16,894.
31,287 5G sites have been declared technically operational by the operators. Almost all of these 5G installations are authorized on existing sites, already used by 2G, 3G or 4G technologies. Only five sites only host 5G. In May, authorized 5G sites therefore increased by 1.1%. According to operator statements, 76.8% of authorized sites are technically operational.
As for 4G, Bouygues Telecom was the most active of the four operators with 185 new active 4G sites (25,381 in total). SFR is once again second with 139 4G sites (25,065 in total). Free Mobile is in third place with 117 new 4G sites (24,573 in total). The latest is none other than Orange with only 44 new 4G sites in France (29,228 in total).
